Good Versus Evil

GOOD VERSES EVIL

Psalm 46:1–2 (NIV)
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.”
This morning, as I sit at my desk, my heart is somber. In the wake of the evil that was revealed yesterday, I turned immediately to the Word of God, which declares: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.” — Psalm 46:1–2 (NIV)

Today marks the 24th anniversary of the most devastating and horrific attack on American soil. It was a day of fear, as our nation stood in shock, witnessing unimaginable evil unfold before our very eyes. As we remember 9/11, my heart is also heavy with the same somber grief over the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, which took place yesterday at Utah University in Salt Lake City, Utah.

It is hard to believe that in America today, someone can be assassinated simply because of their political or religious beliefs. Today, I do not even recognize the America I grew up in! How far we have intentionally removed ourselves from the foundational principles of God's Word!

The 9/11 attack and the assignation of Charlie Kirk reveals to us the spiritual battle between good and evil. Yesterday in Utah, as it did 24 years ago, evil prevailed. But rest assured, God will have the last word.

Here are a few verses of Scripture that came to mind as I watched the evil unfold yesterday and reflected on the horrific events of 9/11:

  • John 16:33 (NLT) – “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

  • 1 John 5:19 (NIV) – “We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

  • Ephesians 6:12 (ESV) – “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

These verses remind us of the reality of evil in the world. We face trials, sorrows, and spiritual battles against unseen forces of darkness, and the world remains under the influence of the evil one. Yet, Jesus assures us that He has already overcome the world, giving us hope and strength to stand firm in Him.

When we face the realities and attacks of the evil one, remember this pivotal truth—God is omnipotent. He is all-powerful, with unlimited authority over all creation, and nothing is too hard for Him. As Jeremiah 32:17 reminds us, the God who made the heavens and the earth by His great power can overcome every challenge we face.

God’s power over evil is absolute and unshakable. His Word teaches us not to be overcome by evil but to conquer it with good (Romans 12:21). The Lord is faithful to strengthen and protect His people from the evil one (2 Thessalonians 3:3), and He promises that while the wicked will ultimately be destroyed, those who trust in Him will inherit His blessings and peace (Psalm 37:9).

The Bible clearly shows that God is omnipotent—all-powerful and fully in control—yet it also reminds us that we live in the midst of spiritual battles against unseen forces of darkness. While evil is real and active in the world, it can never overpower God’s authority. Through Christ, we have the assurance that His victory is ours, and we can stand strong knowing His power is greater than any force we face.

To put the cookies on the bottom shelf: God is omnipotent—all-powerful, period!

Job 42:2 reminds us that nothing can stop God’s plans. Luke 1:37 declares that His Word never fails, and Revelation 19:6 proclaims that He reigns as the Almighty. In simple terms, God has complete power and authority.

As we face these tragedies and the work of Satan through his followers, please remember: no problem is too great for God to solve, no enemy is too strong for Him to overcome, and no prayer is too small for Him to notice.

Will you take a moment right now to pray for the Charlie Kirk family? Please also remember in prayer the families of the 2,996 who tragically lost their lives on 9/11/2001, as well as the loved ones of all who have experienced death at the hands of the evil one.

In the midst of tragedy, fear, and uncertainty, there is hope and healing available through Jesus Christ. Right now, will you give your life to Him? Will you open your heart to His comfort, His peace, and His restoration?

My prayer is that you can find comfort in Christ. The Psalmist says, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, now is the time to seek Him, trust in His love, and allow His presence to bring true healing and lasting hope. If you need prayer or someone to talk to, please take a moment and complete the Connection Card below.

May God bless you abundantly!
