A Season of New Beginnings
As the long days of summer begin to shorten and school buses return to our streets, this month we find ourselves entering a new season—both literally and spiritually. Summer is a time of rest, travel, family, and sometimes, a slower pace. But as we walk into the month of August, we’re reminded that new routines are beginning, and new opportunities await.
This transition is a beautiful reminder that God works through seasons.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT) tells us, “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven."
Just as God ordains the changing of seasons in nature, He also works through the changing seasons in our lives. The end of summer and the start of a new school year is not just a calendar change—it’s a divine opportunity.
1. A Time to Refocus
Let this new season be a time to renew our spiritual focus. Perhaps summer was restful, but also a bit scattered spiritually. Now is the time to re-establish rhythms of prayer, worship, and being in the Word.
“Let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another...” Hebrews 10:25 (NLT)
Let’s be intentional about gathering with God’s people, whether in Sunday worship or small groups. Let’s prioritize what matters most.
2. A Time to Grow
For students, this is a time to gain knowledge and grow in understanding. For families, it’s a time to adjust to new schedules and responsibilities. But for all of us, it’s a time to grow in our faith.
“Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18 (NLT)
Let’s commit to growing—spiritually, relationally, and missionally—as a church family this season.
3. A Time to Trust
Every new season can come with uncertainties—new teachers, new routines, new challenges. But we are not alone. God goes before us.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
Parents, students, teachers, and all who are stepping into something new—lean into God’s faithfulness. He is with you every step of the way.
As your pastor, I want you to know I’m praying for you. I’m praying for our students, teachers, and families as they step into this new school year. I’m praying for every one of us to refocus our hearts on Jesus.
Let’s walk together in this season—serving, growing, and trusting God to lead us.
May this be more than just the start of a new school year. May it be the start of a deeper walk with Christ.
You are loved,
Pastor Jon
