Thanksgiving: A Season to Be Grateful

Psalm 136:1 (NLT)
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.”
Thanksgiving is more than a holiday on the calendar; it’s a posture of the heart. It is a season that invites us to slow down, look around, and recognize the fingerprints of God in every part of our lives.

Gratitude is not something God asks of us because He needs it—He asks because we need it. A thankful heart anchors us, strengthens us, and keeps our focus on the Giver rather than the gifts.

Gratitude Reframes Our Perspective

Life can be noisy, rushed, and at times overwhelming. But thanksgiving shifts our perspective from what we lack to what we have.

Paul writes, “In everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT)

We are not thankful for everything—but we can be thankful in everything because God is present, working, and faithful.

Gratitude Reminds Us of God’s Faithfulness

When we practice thanksgiving, we remind ourselves that God has never failed us. Every answered prayer, every protected moment, every breath is evidence of His goodness.

“Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things He does for me.” — Psalm 103:2 (NLT)

Gratitude calls to mind the countless ways God has cared for us—often in ways we never saw at the time.

Gratitude Releases Peace Into Our Hearts

A grateful heart and an anxious heart cannot occupy the same space.

Paul says, “Pray about everything… Thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace…” — Philippians 4:6–7 (NLT)

Thanksgiving opens the door to God’s peace—a peace that guards our minds, calms our fears, and steadies our souls.

Gratitude Refocuses Us on Jesus

Ultimately, every blessing traces back to the cross. Because of Jesus, we have hope, forgiveness, purpose, and eternal life.

“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” — 2 Corinthians 9:15 (NLT)

Thanksgiving leads us straight to the Savior, the greatest gift we will ever receive.

Take a moment and whisper this prayer to God:

Lord, in this season of gratitude, help me pause and remember Your goodness.
Open my eyes to the blessings that surround me—big and small.
Fill my heart with thankfulness, my mouth with praise,
and my life with a spirit that brings You honor.
Thank You for Your unending love, Your daily provision,
and the hope I have through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Will you give your life to Jesus today?

Pray this prayer to receive Jesus as your Savior:

“Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe You died on the cross for my sins and rose again to give me new life. Today, I turn from my old ways and invite You into my heart. Be my Lord, be my Savior, and help me follow You all the days of my life. Right now, I trust you as my Savior and will follow you as my Lord. Thank You for loving me. Amen.”

Assurance of Salvation

If you prayed that prayer and meant it in your heart, you can be sure that you are saved.

Romans 10:13 (NLT) “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

John 10:28 (NLT)“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me.”
